How to Use a Salt Lick

  • Hang the block at the animal's head height with the included rope.
  • Place it near fresh water, since salt makes animals drink more.
  • Outdoors, put it in shade and out of standing water so it lasts longer.
  • Replace the block when it wears thin.

Every animal's salt and mineral needs differ by diet, workload and health. Ask your vet or animal nutritionist how a salt lick fits your feeding plan.

Salt Licks by Animal

Horse owners hang salt licks in stalls so horses can take salt when they want it. Cattle, goats and sheep use them in barns and pens. Deer and wildlife use them at mineral stations, where local hunting and feeding rules may apply.
